Terms of Use
Effective date: 1 June 2026 · Last updated: 1 June 2026
Important: By creating a Rit account or using the Rit application, you agree to these Terms of Use. Please read them carefully. If you do not agree, do not use the platform.
1. Parties and Definitions
"Rit", "we", "us" means Rit Belgium BV, a private limited company incorporated under Belgian law, with registered office in Ghent, Belgium.
"Platform" means the Rit mobile application, website (rit.taxi), and related services.
"Passenger" means any registered user who requests a ride through the Platform.
"Driver" means any individual registered on the Platform who holds a valid Belgian taxi licence and provides transport services.
"Trip" means a completed journey from a pickup point to a destination, facilitated through the Platform.
"Fare" means the price calculated by the Platform for a Trip, displayed to the Passenger before booking confirmation.
2. Nature of the Service
Rit is a technology platform that connects licensed taxi drivers with passengers. Rit is not a transport company. Transport services are provided by independent Drivers who are solely responsible for compliance with Belgian taxi regulations, their licences, insurance obligations, and vehicle roadworthiness.
Rit acts as a commercial agent facilitating the conclusion of transport contracts between Passengers and Drivers. The transport contract is concluded directly between the Passenger and the Driver upon booking confirmation.
3. Eligibility and Registration
- You must be at least 18 years of age to register an account
- You must provide accurate, complete, and current information during registration
- You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials
- One person may hold only one Passenger account and one Driver account
- Rit reserves the right to verify your identity at any time and to suspend accounts where information is found to be inaccurate
4. Passenger Obligations
- Be present at the pickup location within a reasonable time after driver arrival
- Treat Drivers with respect; harassment, discrimination, or threatening behaviour is grounds for immediate account termination
- Do not request transport of illegal goods or substances
- Comply with the Driver's reasonable safety instructions
- Pay the Fare in full; disputes must be raised through the in-app support channel
- Do not reproduce, reverse-engineer, or misuse the Platform
5. Driver Obligations
- Hold and maintain a valid taxi driver licence issued by the competent Belgian regional authority at all times
- Maintain valid professional third-party liability insurance covering passenger transport
- Operate only vehicles that are roadworthy and meet all Belgian regulatory requirements
- Accept and complete Trips in a professional, safe, and courteous manner
- Not charge Passengers any amount other than the Fare confirmed by the Platform
- Pay the Rit platform fee of €1.00 (one euro) per completed Trip
- Comply with all applicable tax obligations, including VAT where applicable
- Not operate while under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or any substance that impairs driving ability
6. Pricing and Payments
6.1 Fare Calculation
Fares are calculated based on the vehicle category selected, estimated distance, estimated duration, and, where applicable, a surge multiplier reflecting increased demand. The fare displayed before booking confirmation is an estimate; the final fare is determined upon trip completion based on actual distance and duration.
6.2 Rit Platform Fee
Rit charges Drivers a flat fee of €1.00 per completed Trip, deducted from Driver earnings. This is the entirety of Rit's commission — we do not charge a percentage of the fare.
6.3 Payment Methods
Passengers may pay by credit/debit card (processed in-app) or cash, as offered at the time of booking. Card payments are processed through a certified PCI-DSS payment provider. Rit does not store full card numbers.
6.4 Cancellation Fees
A cancellation fee may be charged if a Passenger cancels a Trip after a Driver has been dispatched and has been waiting beyond the grace period specified in the app. The applicable cancellation fee will be displayed in the app before the fee is applied.
6.5 No Right of Withdrawal for Transport Services
Pursuant to Article VI.53, 12° of the Belgian Code of Economic Law, the statutory 14-day right of withdrawal does not apply to transport services for a specific date or period.
7. Ratings and Reviews
After each Trip, Passengers and Drivers may rate each other on a scale of 1 to 5 stars. Ratings are used to maintain quality and safety standards on the Platform. Drivers or Passengers whose average rating falls persistently below acceptable thresholds may have their access to the Platform restricted or terminated.
8. Prohibited Conduct
You may not use the Platform to:
- Create fake accounts or manipulate ratings
- Circumvent the Platform to arrange off-platform payments with matched counterparties
- Scrape, copy, or redistribute Platform data
- Engage in any fraudulent activity
- Violate any applicable Belgian, EU, or international law
9. Intellectual Property
All intellectual property in the Platform — including the Rit brand, logo, application, software, and content — belongs to or is licensed by Rit Belgium BV. You are granted a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use the Platform solely for its intended purpose. Nothing in these Terms transfers any ownership of intellectual property to you.
10. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by Belgian law:
- Rit is not liable for the acts or omissions of Drivers, including accidents, delays, or property damage during a Trip
- Rit is not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from use of the Platform
- Rit's total aggregate liability for any claim arising from these Terms or the Platform shall not exceed the total Rit platform fees paid by you (as Driver) or the total Fares paid by you (as Passenger) in the 12 months preceding the event giving rise to the claim
Nothing in this clause limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, or any other liability that cannot be excluded under Belgian law.
11. Suspension and Termination
Rit may suspend or permanently deactivate your account without prior notice if: (a) you materially breach these Terms; (b) we have reason to believe you pose a safety risk; (c) required by law or regulatory order. You may close your account at any time via the app settings. Termination does not affect accrued rights or obligations.
12. Governing Law and Jurisdiction
These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with Belgian law. Any dispute arising from or in connection with these Terms that cannot be resolved amicably shall be submitted to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Ghent, Belgium.
If you are a consumer, you also have the right to use the EU Online Dispute Resolution platform: ec.europa.eu/consumers/odr.
13. Changes to These Terms
We may amend these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be notified at least 30 days in advance via the app or e-mail. Continued use of the Platform after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
